Customize the Elite Template - Add Your Own Links to the Left Navigation Bar

The Elite theme has a left navigation bar which is displayed on your pages, product more information pages and the search result pages. The links on your pages are the page links assigned to each page. The links on the product more information pages and the search result pages are the default, a "home" link and a "back" link. If you would like to have your own links hard coded into the left navigation so that all your pages, product more information pages and search result pages are the same, you can do this by following the steps below.

1.   Copy the Elite theme files. Below are a list of files that you would need to copy in your store.

• core_001_pa_basic_page.sst - this is the code for the main body of the Elite page template.
  (Merchandising > Custom Templates > Includes > Copy ShopSite Template)
• core_001_pr_basic_moreinfo.sst - this is the code for the main body of the Elite product more information page.
  (Merchandising > Custom Templates > Includes > Copy ShopSite Template)
• core_001_se_basic_page.sst - this is the code for the main body of the Elite search results template.
  (Merchandising > Custom Templates > Includes > Copy ShopSite Template)

2.   Locate the table with class="pa_links". Within all of these templates and template files locate the table named “pa_links”. The beginning of the “pa_links” section will look similar to the code below:

3.   Add your links above the [-- IF GiftCert --] tag. You now want to add your own page links above the [-- IF GiftCert --] tag using the format below. Replace the URL with the URL to the page link you are adding, and "page name" with the link name you would like to use.

Your final code should look similar to:

5.   Copy YOUR copy and name it the EXACT same as the original. Once you have finished making modifications, you can copy your copied templates and give them the exact same name as the originals. If you do this, your new templates will override the original templates. Once your file names override the originals, you can use the Elite theme and it will read your new files and display your new links.

6.   Publish. To publish your store with the modified files and new links you can go to Utilities > Publish > Regenerate.
